Proposed gas pipeline expansion in Westchester park could have environmental impact

WHITE PLAINS – A proposal to replace a natural gas pipeline with a larger one could have negative environmental effects on the flora and fauna in Westchester County’s Blue Mountain Reservation in the Town of Cortlandt.

Hudsonia’s Dr. Erik Kiviat presented the findings of his independent report to Westchester lawmakers on Wednesday.

Houston, Texas-based Spectra Gas Corporation has proposed expanding the capacity of its Algonquin natural gas pipeline by replacing a 26-inch line with a 42-inch pipe from Rockland County to Massachusetts via Northern Westchester and Putnam County.
