NY Sens. Urge FERC To Delay Algonquin Pipeline Decision

New York (February 10, 2015, 5:32 PM ET) — Both New York senators on Monday called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to delay deciding whether to approve a natural gas pipeline expansion project that partly runs through the state, saying the potential negative effects of the proposal warrant more study.

In a letter to FERC, Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D.-N.Y., said Spectra Energy Corp.’s Algonquin Incremental Market expansion project, which passes through three densely populated New York counties as well as parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, raises health, safety and environmental concerns.
