CORTLANDT – Protesters arrived with signs in hand and left in handcuffs Monday after blocking the entrance to the Algonquin pipeline construction site, police said.

Eleven people were arrested in Verplanck, where they blocked two entrances to Spectra Energy’s work areas for the Algonquin natural gas pipeline project, state police said.

The protesters’ latest anti-pipeline efforts were made on the same day that Gov. Andrew Cuomo called for the federal government to halt construction of the Algonquin Incremental Market project, which carries natural gas from Pennsylvania to New England.
