11 protesters arrested, charged with blocking access to Algonquin pipeline worksite

A group of 11 protesters were arrested Monday morning in Verplanck, accused of blocking the entrance to the Algonquin pipeline worksite.

The protesters were fighting against Spectra Energy’s plan to expand the pipeline near Indian Point nuclear power plant. They say a pipeline rupture near a nuclear power plant could put thousands of lives in danger.

They were subsequently willing to put their own lives at risk to stop Algonquin pipeline workers from accessing their job site this morning.
